1615年（慶長20）、徳川家康によって建てられた。黄金の鯱を頂き、史上最大の延床面積の大天守
絢爛豪華な本丸御殿、 鉄壁の守りを固めた要塞、城郭として国宝第一号に指定された正に名城。
