The Tokugawa family castle, with gorgeous sliding screen paintings and gardens
A castle built by Tokugawa Ieyasu, this is a World Heritage Site. You can feel the breath of history in this space, with the Ninomaru Palace, which was the stage for the restoration of imperial rule, the gorgeous sliding screen paintings by the Kano school, and the corridors lined with Japanese laurels. The gardens are also beautiful in every season, with the cherry blossoms in spring and the autumn leaves being particularly popular.
